i have life-long insomnia, so i utterly understand the effects of sleep deficiency.

i've recently transitioned to decaff tea. the trick is twofold. 1. look for the best decaff products, they are not all created equal. And of course the big one, 2. perspective. i don't think of it as something taken away, but rather something added. more motivation to try unusual herbal blends.
good luck!

i'm so proud of you mama! following your gut is the only way to go, and i applaud you for reaching for change and making it happen.

as you know, gaia began school today. it was not the warm and cozy of waldorf, and this was a slap in the face. sean and i both questioned ourselves a million times over and we still are wondering if we made the right decision. she cried all day. my heart was shattered, and then once at the beach, she was my gaia again. her happy place. she tells me she likes her teacher a lot, but she doesn't like her class. tomorrow is a new day. i hope for happy.

thank you for inspiring me. always.

Lakshmi, I'm so curious about Ayurvedic treatments. I've tried to self diagnose in the past, but it may be time to find a professional in my area. Do you have any favorite websites to recommend? I'd love any tips.

Melanie, I'm with you on the all or nothing approach. The problem is that if I have wine one day I want it every day! Same goes for cake and coffee. But I think you are familiar with my reasons for living. :) I'm slowly embracing decaf. And I've been sleeping better for the past 5 days. Progress!

What if you kind of rotated the yummy treats throughout the week a few days instead of relying on them every day....like a cup of coffee one morning, a small glass of wine one evening, a cup of green tea a different afternoon, etc....and just enjoyed them without loading them up on any given day or dealing with the dread of eliminating them all. Maybe your body wouldn't feel the effects too much but you'd still get small doses of food happy, which is kind of my reason for living :) could that work? I'm often an all or nothing kind of a girl so I realize this is way easier said than done.....but this post makes me want to crawl into a beige bedroom wrapped in beige sheets and weep.

I love Siggi's for myself and I'll have to look for it for the boys. Thank you for sharing :)

Feeding and selecting food for my boys is one of the hardest battles I fight on a daily basis, especially as they grow older. I'm up against companies that are spending millions of dollars to market to the boys and I have to always be on the look out how they are sneak their products into my home. One of my biggiest pet peeves are children's menus at resteraunts. Why does there have to be a separate menu for children? 99% of the time I refuse the children's menu since it normally only has bland, processed, high carb choices. That generally makes me the "bad guy" in my nephews eyes and leads to a few unhappy moments before we can get back on track. We usually end up splitting a well selected adult entree, to which we are generally penalized for and have to pay a split plate charge. I'm ok with having to override the system but sometimes, especially when I am tired, I get extremely frustrated that the system for feeding children (and adults) is so broken.

Hi Mary! It's great to hear from you. Thank you for commenting. It's always nice to extend the conversation and I know we all have so much to offer and learn from one another. I hear you on the boxed foods and Annie's is our regular indulgence, too. Baby steps to better health for the whole family, right? :)
