Spiced warming tea: my everyday

warming elixer

Have you found your taste buds changing and adjusting to the shift in seasons? While I’ve yet to roast my first butternut squash of the season or go completely honeycrisp batshit as I usually do in fall, I am craving spiced infusions and warm soups on a daily basis.

Over the summer months I lived on the ultimate thirst-quenching concoction I like to call Elixer of Life. Seriously, it was the most cooling and refreshing thing and I craved it all day, every day. It’s equal parts fresh lemon juice, grated ginger root and mint, steeped in hot water for 15-30 minutes and then poured over ice. I meant to blog about it, but the brew never lasted long enough to take a decent photo. Next year.

Here’s fall and winter’s version of my sweet Elixer of Life. The ginger packs an anti-inflammatory bunch, while  two of my favorite spices cinnamon and cardamon warm you from the inside out. It’s cozy, a little spicey and feels like such a treat.

1-2 inches fresh ginger root, grated
2 whole cardamon pods, smashed
1/2 a cinnamon stick, smashed

Bring two cups of water just to a boil and pour over ingredients in a tea infuser (or combine ingredients with water and heat on the stove, bring to a boil and then remove from heat) let stand for 20-30 minutes. Strain and enjoy warm. It will look light, but is full of flavor. And if you love tea and have yet to pick up an infuser I would highly recommend putting one on your Christmas list. I thought they were silly until I received one as a gift. I’ve used it everyday for the past 6 months and it’s one of my favorite kitchen gadgets. This is similar to mine.
