One Clean Thing ~ Almond Oil
By Estelle Hayes
Almonds are a favorite snack of mine. They are packed with protein, vitamin E and calcium, which makes them a perfect daily addition to my vegetarian diet. But recently, I’ve discovered the benefit of almond oil, as a replacement to my fairly toxic body lotion addiction.
I’ve been a huge consumer of body creams since junior high and have basically been slathering on any cream with a Lily of the Valley scent I could get my hands on for the past 25 years. Those days are gone, my friends. Body lotions are pretty hard to make “clean’ so I knew I’d be taking the oil plunge sooner or later.
My favorite natural girls over at No More Dirty Looks have long been singing the praises of argan and coconut oil for the body and face. They’ve got a great Q & A about it here. They also recommend Soapwalla’s body oil, which I’m adding to my holiday wish list.
I save my argan oil for my neck and face – it’s pricey. But I found a good quality almond oil in the personal care section at Whole Foods and I’ve been using it everyday on my legs and arms right after a shower for the past month. It absorbs almost instantly and a little goes a long way. I’m really pleased with the results. Now all I need to do is find an essential oil mix to match my beloved Lily of the Valley scent. Unless blue mascara and purple eye shadow is making a comeback, I’m pretty sure that’s the only personal beauty tip I’d welcome from 1986.
Do you use oil on your body or face? Would you consider replacing your body cream with a luxurious oil? I’d love to know what works for you.
